Ray: I really need something to help me sleep. Got any beer. Sam: Nope. My mom doesn't allow it in the house anymore. Ray: Seriously? B.D. can't kick back with a brew in his own home? Sam: He was pouring it on his cereal. Ray: How about cooking sherry? Or paint thinner?

Paint thinner?!? Isn’t drinking that hazardous?

Seriously, dude, don’t discount the soporific power of a good bowl of sugary cereal and a cup of warm milk.

I think that is a Roman numeral “I” – as it is supposed to be.

The U.S. executed 141 U.S. servicemen during WW II. All but one were for murder and/or rape. That one exception was for desertion.
None were for PTSD (or Shell Shock as they called it then).

“Well, I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer.”Great story arc GBT. Heartbreaking, funny, human. I’ll bet this and BD’s story have been extremely helpful in producing support for vets’ physical and psychological needs after combat.

Supposedly, Kitty Dukakis used to seek out antifreeze when there wasn’t anything better in the house….people do desperate things sometimes….

Robin: then Kitty is dead. antifreeze is one weapon used to murder several times in the last couple decades. Wrong alcohol. Might be an Urban Legend. Old alkies usually kill themselves with some version of wood alcohol over a relatively short period of time simply because the money ran out and the stuff is cheap.I once worked at a lakeside party store in Mi where there is a ban on selling any alcohol before noon. I would have a line of folks out the door on a summer Sunday waiting for their fix. I once had a guy steal a bottle of wine from an aisle behind me while i was waiting on some ladies at 10 in the morning. Mom died of Kidney cancer which is directly related to too much booze (Germans love their beer.) So please, DON’T walk even a cm. in his shoes.

^perhaps “quality sleep”…. but there must be some reason that if I start drinking midday, I’ve passed out by 5 or 6 pm…

Self-medication with alcohol is a common “game”. We’ve lost more “troops” in several branches btw because they drank anti-freeze seeking “the buzz”, than firing squads. Noting friends, and my son’s consumption of “hops and barley” is close to what I went through some time ago. Hopefully, Ray will come around short of paint thinner, or permanent dependence.

Try to keep this in mind when you talk about what Ray should or shouldn’t do.

I’ll keep in mind that “rays” of the world like to take a spin after they’ve had a few, Palin. Making their personal Hades a shared experience for others.

The fashionable thing now is to eat chocolate that is 70% cacao. At that strength it actually doesn’t tempt me to more than a few small bites! too concentrated. (and I am a confirmed (by me) chocoholic) (I fully understand a motto I saw somewhere: “Everything in moderation – except chocolate!”)Alcohol doesn’t seem to work that way, tho. The more you want, the more you want.I do hope GT doesn’t have some kind of horrible doom awaiting Ray… People know about the evils of drink. What we need to find out about is a cure.

I like how the strip has aged over the years. BD no longer plays college football but is Coach. Everyone has grown up,life happens. Ray doesn’t thinkhe needs help but he is exactly whete he needs to be to get started
