Zipper: Hey, look who it is! What up, J-Dawg? Jeff: Nothin' but suck, man. Bank took my home. Zipper: What? No! All of it? Jeff: All of it. Can't even stay in the pool house. I need to crash here. Zipper: Okay, bro. No problem. Jeff: I'll take the bedroom. You can have the couch. Zipper: Excuse me? Jeff: Oh... sorry, man... it's hard getting disentitled.

Rmoney — lost. Posies-to-Mommie groupon — flopped. Zipper bedroom gambit — failed. Man, it’s hard getting reentitled too.

wouldn’t blame the Greatest Generation for our high expectations……that was to have been the war that ended all wars…and we realized that Pogo was right. and that God & Mammon are a bad combo, and that we are not “good losers”. & these times are about loss, loss, loss & loss.
Raygun about 12 years ago
In the kindness of years past the homeowner would gladly sleep on the couch whilst insisting that the guest take the bedroom. Folks nowadays would say “WTF you say?!”

“Hard getting disentitled” — amen. That’s got to be the m.o. of the reality-TV age. Everyone is due everything and doesn’t have to work for it. Trophies for everyone.

@Doughfoot that is truly a superb and thought-provoking discussion. I hope you don’t mind my forwarding it to some of my friends.

Wow! You are one incorrigible optimist!

Thry are still unloading the 12 semis of Romney’s stuff that was already on the way last Tuesday.

@Doughfoot The WASP male is in decline, and he can’t distinguish that from the decline of the nation, and he rages. “It’s hard getting disentitled.”^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^The White Anglo Saxon Protestant sense of privilege has always been at the core of the legal ( and not-so-legal ) expansionism in the United States. it has also been the underpinning for our laws and social mores. It has, until recently, been a de facto way of life.I firmly believe that the reason for such terrible disconnect and disunity in our country today is that many cannot face the truth that the WASP sense of entitlement has become a false premise and the WASP male really is in decline ! There is a huge segment of our population ( fueled by the inflammatory rhetoric of the Limbaughs, O’Reillys, and Becks ) that are running scared and are in total denial of today’s reality. My fear is that this segment of society, in their fear and hatred will not just vent with vitriolic words and obstructionist legislation but resort to outright violence. I hope I am wrong.

“Isn’t it time for another Red Rascal graphic novel? Or did the original tank in sales?”
As a career book editor, I know it would be a part of Becca Bickle’s job at Random House to pursue a $$$-making graphic novel author for another manuscript. And maybe even a contract for all future ones (till the sales slack off too much).
But I’m not writing the script. Trudeau is.

I suspect that both Romney and Rmoney will be distant memories soon. The GOP will want to double down on the idea that he was not conservative enough and want to move on and the rest of us will just want to move on. BTW, if the GOP wants to continue their losing strategy, it is fine with me.

Jeff reminds me of a mini-Duke, but with all the delusions and none of the medication.

“… this country(and most of the rest of the world) will most likely return to a serf/land baron-like state ….”
I’ve thought this for a long time. The fact that Obama was re-elected doesn’t mean this “aristocracy v. peasantry” economy is going to go back to the relatively equal one of the post-WWII years (50s-60s, excluding blacks of course, of course).
U.S. drones hitting Pakistan, Yemen, and other countries not already under our Roman-like Empire only enrages those countries’ populations against us. Keep this up and just watch the rest of the world begin to align against us — just as the northern Germanic tribes aligned against the common enemy, the Roman Empire, and eventually destroyed them and brought in the Dark Ages. Afghanistan isn’t called “the graveyard of empires” for nothing, you know.
Oliver Stone says Obama is “scary”.

AMEN! Great sermon, and you didn’t even cite the text — but you could have started with Matt. 5:1-12. Then there’s the one about a camel going through the eye of the needle, easier than the rich “entitled” seeing the true Kingdom of Heaven.

Screeds.
I click for a few readers’ quips on the comic, and end up swamped in screeds from Kaczinskis.

’ He may not run for anything else again.’The funniest comment I read was someone who, thinking of “Team of Enemies”, said Obama should offer him the position of Secretary of Commerce, since he knows so much about it (hah!).Unless it pays $3-4 million, I can’t see him taking it (and it doesn’t).

I am not trying to be provocative here, but I would like a little bit of insight as to your opinion on this….1) I voted for Obama, for a second time this election, 2) But, I only voted for Obama because I thought he had a higher percentage chance of doing something good and of merit for our society than did Romney, but 3) I have been sorely disappointed in the first term he has had, and I fear it will be much the same “nothingness” again this time. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Hillary for 2016!!!!! We need her NOW, but we will really need her then!!!!

Ihope you don’t include the Social Security millions like me have paid into over the years as an ‘entitlement" in anything but the warped definition of that word. As i’ve long said, any time they want to give me back what i apid in with interest, they can keep their system. As a WASP male, I would point out many of us worked to help in our “decline” by enfranchising others. We called it ‘equality" You see, the leaders don’t have to suppress others. Survival of the species has always depended on cooperation, not the john Wayne myth.

Wow, such a hopeful, posthumanist point of view. let’s kioll each other to make things better? the true end of survival of the fittest and atheism.
freeholder1 about 12 years ago
As a WASP who voted for Obama both times and wonders why the spellcheck here keeps popping up at his name’s spelling, I would say that the hatred of WASPs as a minority or majority is a vile as WASP hatred of other races. LEARN from our mistake. Grow up.

Better to recommend Revelation. We are there now.

The “Greed is good” mentality (reference: Gordon Gekko) currently rules. Great wealth (example: Jeff’s erstwhile mega-expensive home and car) reigns as proof of great moral fortitude: work hard, get rich. If you’re poor / homeless, you’re morally reprehensible. Because you didn’t work hard / get rich. Doonesbury demonstrates otherwise by representing Jeff’s fall from wealthy=moral to poor=immoral.
Jesus the Christ — having nowhere to “lay his head” — would qualify as poor=immoral. Thus a real study of Jesus automatically disqualifies the “name it, claim it” gospel. Joel Osteen is one example.

Only fair way to get everyone on the same page. The government should take everything the 1% and the 99% have and keep the whole 100%. Talk about one united people.

Interesting how Obama won The States that did NOT require Photo I.D. in order to vote. Also that Military votes got ‘LOST’ and didn’t arrive in time to be counted. Hmmm, What a coincidence. :)

… getting back to our subject : the problem is Jeff’s confusion between the “credit rating” that suddenly “afforded” him a loan bigger than his ability to pay and “entitlement”. Attention: superjumbo loan ≠≠≠ entitlement. Duh! Who am I talking to? The whole world knows that … … by now.
Or does it?
’Cause if it does, then how come so many young people – young hard working families – still get tricked every day, as we speak, into loans far greater than they will be able to pay?

As well as for the invasion of Iraq. Not to mention slavery.
