Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for July 29, 2013
Transcript:
Trff: God willing, it should be over in minutes! Duke: Great. Trff's cronies are back... Trff: Then we take the president and impale him on the spire above the dome of the grand mosque! After that... Duke: Hey! What's going on here? Trff: Uh... nothing. Duke: You're plotting a comeback, aren't you? In my dining room!

Yes, this “Doonesbury” is a rerun. Garry Trudeau is on hiatus, as he works on another project. New strips should return in September.

sigh No other strip has the number of reruns Doonesbury has.
I agree with what someone else said earlier this year: When Trudeau wants to take a break or work on another project, we would like to see strips from the early years. How about a bit of Doonesbury nostalgia?

What “special project” is Trudeau working on?

Strips from the early days would remind us of a time before GT became such a pedantic bore.

And about the amazing number of comments revealing the “awareness” that this is a re-run" – and going on to complain about it:
Could it be that you don’t know the past strips are all available in the history? Do you really think anybody with half a brain doesn’t know this is a re-run? Do you think Trudeau gives a damn what you think about his work or his schedule?
Let me suggest that you allow yourself the great relief and relaxation available to those of us who tune in, enjoy the memories, and look forward to the pleasure of seeing whatever it is that Trudeau comes up with next. Most of us consider it an honor and a privilege to be aware enough to enjoy Doonesbury. Trudeau is one of the remarkable geniuses of our era. And that should be obvious whether or not you agree with all of his viewpoints.
Interesting thought, that. I can’t remember any that I don’t agree with, but there may have been one at some point.

“Don’t call this a comeback! I’ve been here for years!”

I wonder if Big Al in syria will end up impaled on a spire in Syria only to be replaced by jihadist wackos.

Has anyone noticed that very little has changed since these strips first came out? Islamists, Shiites, and Sunis killing each other, plus a few ‘peace-keepers’ on the side?

Alpha House is a wonderful show written by Trudeau and available for free at Amazon videos. It has the Trudeau stamp all over it. If you enjoy Doonesbury you will definitely enjoy it. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

I’m curious to know why you read Trudeau when you hate his values and why you take part in thte discussion when you have no contribution beyond insulting his work. Isn’t it just bangng your head against a rock? Wouldn’t you be better off praising the work of someone whose values you celebrate?Or if you want to denigrate, wouldn’t it be more effective to research a bit and back up your values with facts?

“However when it comes to killing the USA is still tops. So Christians killing Muslims in thier own countries still makes the US top dog in the religious killing department.”-Christians in the USA are killing more Muslims in the USA than are killing each other elsewhere?Cite source if you please.-Or are you saying Americans are killing Muslims in other countries because we are all Christians and they are all Muslims and that we are killing them for being Muslims?-If so, you’re gonna have a REAL HARD TIME providing THAT citation.’-Or if you’re saying we kill more people in general, that would be hard to prove what with Stalin killing some 20 million for political reasons, Mao killing some40 to 60 million, Pol Pot intending to kill 2/3 of Cambodia for ideological reasons, only stopped by Vietnam stepping in to halt the slaughter.-Expound please.

And how many Muslims have been killed by the USA in Egypt and Syria ? Same for Iraq and Afghanistan by a magnitude of way beyond 10. The Muslims are killing one another for religions domination and differences.

MSNBC would do so much with this; “Look at the fashions, let’s talk about our feelings for 18 hours, oh apparently a bus or train crashed..oh I wonder what they were wearing?”

It seems that some of you who take the bait and explain every single day the reasons behind the reruns might want to consider that those who are asking (especially those who are asking after the first comment of the day explains it yet again), just might be trolls pushing your buttons. If they haven’t figured it out or seen it by now, I don’t think explaining it to them again is going to help.

When Republicans will hold Ronald Reagan responsible for the Beirut Embassy bombing, not just the one on April 18, 1983 but also the one on September 20, 1984. I am not even going to mention Marine barracks bombing in October 1983.

When they hold bush responsible for the Iraq murders. Not just the hundreds of thousands we killed, but the thousands still dying in sectarian violence we unleashed and then ignored. 500+ just in the last month.

That would be true if he sharpened the argument, but I see no evidence of change, none of impovement. Ranting is bad for the blood pressure and useless as rhetoric.
