Nobody knew a fraction of the mineral content until we surveyed it for them.Nonetheless, President Obama will not keep us there for the minerals any more than he kept us in Iraq for its petroleum reserves.Obama is a good man.Have you no shame?Besides, China gonna extract the minerals for us and sell them to us as long as we behave. The people of Afghanistan will be tied up figuring how to keep their women “in their place”.

@Bruno ZeigertsWe and the Brits did it to Iran in 1953 when we overthrew the democratically elected president and replaced him with oppressive Shah. The following year the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company changed its name to British Petroleum. Most Americans don’t know why Iran has a problem with the U.S. Google “Operation Ajax.”

I have always had a distaste for Jeff’s character. “The Red Rascal” really pushed more towards the “I want to skip over any strip with him in it” category.

I do find it odd that one of the better characters, Joanie, is mother to 2 of the more loathsome ones, JJ & Jeff.

Meanwhile on the political side of things we are still in Korea 60 years later. My husband did 4 tours in Afghanistan. He figures will be there at least that long. When the government BUILDS buildings for the PX & such, instead of just using tents it’s a given that we’ll hang around awhile.

Not quite true, Zipper. The ones mentioned in the acknowledgements can usually be depended on to read them. (I’ve been mentioned in a few acknowledgements, usually for giving some small financial support to the author.)

Weird – I did not send that message twice, I just refreshed the comments.

Anyway, I was going to point out that Zipper is supposed to be In Colorado, while Jeff is presumably in DC with his parents.

I’m afraid you’re right. Lithium will be the new oil, and countries that have it might as well get ready for visitors.

Your post is somewhat disingenuous: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/14/iraq-child-marriage-bill_n_4962247.html …it’s just another attempt by pols, up for election, to take advantage of self-perceived intolerance of a religious sect to swell their support by “legalizing”/legitimizing the dogma of that group…sorta like the “Family Values” thing ?

Son, never, Never, NEVER, NEVER hit the “Refresh Comments” button! That causes your comments to duplicate every time! Better to right-click on your mouse and refresh the page that way. Thanks for the tip! I’ve learned about the duplication when pressing the “Refresh Comments” button and wondered if there was some way to refresh the comments without the duplication happening.

As you pointed out, President Obama’s presence is not part of a war.He has American troops in Germany and Japan and no war.Further, we are not there for rare earth elements or copper ore or iron ore or any of the natural resources of Afghanistan..If you don’t like our president’s choice of underlings, he’s still the boss and still has drones and NSA and lots of other powerful people under his command.President Obama is NOT a puppet.

Wow, a criticism of President Obama…speaking of which, the new figure on people with insurance because of ObamaCare is 15M → finally a dent in the 37M uninsured! (7.2 from websites, 7.8 direct sign ups with insurance companies)
