The idea that Zeke is “sensitive” is possibly the funniest line in Doonesbury history. (Maybe you had to be there…….)

You just don’t understand. Those good (great-great-grand) sons and daughters of the South-land were just obeying their “good book” which told them that owning slaves was moral. The motto of the CSA was Deo Vindice (variously translated as “Under God, [Our] Vindicator”, “With God as [Our] Champion”, “With God as [Our] Judge”, and “Under the Guidance and Protection of God”). They were good, good, good. The Beatles were bad, bad, bad.

“Potatoes, lovely tuber, however it is a fast or “bad” carbohydrate which means that you eat it and if your body can’t use it immediately it gets converted and stored as fat.”.And yet it was the main food source for Ireland for several generations.Something doesn’t add up.

“What “doesn’t add up”????”.Obviously the claim potatoes are a poor food source when they have fed so many so long.

@StCleve72“Do you apply the teachings of this “Christ” character you cite? “If any man come unto me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brother, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he can not be my disciple.” Luke 14:26. Do you hate your family and yourself?”.No, I pick and choose..I figure He couldn’t have meant it as real hatred, more likely relatively speaking. It needs to square with the concept of treating others the way you would like to be treated, doing more than is absolutely required by law for others, helping those who can’t repay you, not seeking praise by showy acts, doing your duty..I understand you despise the ideas. That is your right and duty if you disagree with them. They were the first which showed the immorality of slavery and other offenses against weaker people, but I suspect you are picking and choosing in your own way. (He also spoke against hypocrisy, another teaching to reject.)

Actually, Night, the problem with potatoes, for anyone who is diabetic or pre-diabetic, is that the body can’t handle all the simple carbs in a safe way. The simple carb breaks down to sugar, but the diabetic either doesn’t have enough insulin to handle the sugar, or the person’s body has become insulin-resistant.-Either way, the excess sugar cause elevated blood glucose levels, which tells you that, instead of the sugar fueling normal operation of the body’s organs, it is acting in a manner that causes damage. Diabetes causes blindness, nerve damage that can lead to amputation because you can’t feel infected wounds on feet, and so on….

For the record, Mike and JJ marry during the 1983/84 hiatus; ie they are not married as the hiatus starts and are married by the time the strip resumes.
