As a Photographer in the RAF many years ago, I took a lot of group photos of flying students as we were based at a primary flying school. One particular day I was on a “confined to base” penalty and was late reporting to the guard house by about 3 minutes, a very young pilot officer leapt at this opportunity to put me on another charge (the git). The following day he was part of a group I photographed, so later when processing the prints, I found his face and using a vignetting technique gave him a tan to be proud of, oddly enough I heard nothing back.

Something shady is going on here…

Off-shore!? What ever happened to “look for the union label” and other “made in America” left-wing pride slogans from the 70s?!?

Is it coincidence that Mark’s neck at his shirt collar goes from white, to shirt coloured, to skin coloured in the 2nd through 4th panels?

I used to cut and apply ziptone screens to spot artwork for newspaper ads, back in the 1990s (a few years before this strip originally ran). It was a very painstaking and time-consuming task involving x-acto knives and VERY steady hands. These days, the same result can be accomplished in Photoshop (or similar apps) with a simple select lasso and a pattern flood-fill .. takes just seconds.

So Trudeau was throwing shade years before it became a saying
