Many of us parents go to our children for tech advice. The thought that you might have any chance of outsmarting your child when it comes to technology is ridiculous. You will only embarrass and frustrate yourself.
Years ago, my brother and I bought my dad a Mac Classic. Dad “cleaned it up” and deleted all of the oldest files
Including the operating system…
As soon as my brother got it going again, dad, a 74 year old WWII vet, set out to learn the machine. Read the manual, took classes, tried stuff. Learned more about that thing than anyone I knew. He even started helping neighbors with their toys.
Old dogs can learn new tricks— even if they burn out the engine of the snowblower by not checking the oil.
Interesting foreshadowing, since she’s going to marry an injured military veteran. Her future husband is about the same age as her, though, so obviously this isn’t the guy. I don’t remember many details about how they met or what they’re doing now. Since the strip went weekly only, we don’t see Alex, her husband, and their two kids very often any more.
Years ago children’s author Judy Blume (I think) talked about the confessional messages she got from her young readers. One girl was upset about something she had seen on the internet. When Judy asked her why she didn’t talk to her parents about it the girl said that she would have to reveal to them that she had disabled the parental control setting on the computer. The article ended with the following: “Parents! Give up! Your children are smarter than you are!”
So it’s an official Armed Forces website and B.D. himself recommended it. Is that really a guarantee that the “sailor” is telling Alex the truth about himself? But it’s just a strip and I should really just relax.

Don’t worry, Mike. She will do more with her brain than just humiliate you.

The fact you’ve been going to your kid with tech questions should make you realize the kid knows more than you do about your devices.

Bosnia. There’s a name that doesn’t come up often any more.

We are the pioneers of the internet. They are its’ native citizens. Or, as I like to say, I am IPv4 and she is IPv6.

One of my ex-girlfriends told me she was corresponding with a man unjustly imprisoned for child molestation. Oh, boy.
