“Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” True. It’s just that guns, modern ones especially that were unimaginable to the Framers of the Constitution, make it one whole heck of a lot easier for people to kill people. Lots and lots and lots of people, every day.
Everybody knows, especially gun violence advocates, that those words have no meaning and the second half of the second amendment is the ONLY part that’s applicable.
The writers of the Constitution were well known for how sloppy their writing was at times, and how they sometimes slipped in some meaningless words and phrases.
The Queen is unavailable for comment, she is not well. Our next PM will have to go to her in Scotland for the laying on of hands. Though that might be a subtle play on the part of the Queen…. a reminder that Scotland is still there and still part of the UK. The horror of her life is compounded by being visited by Charles every day.
Funny how in the wake of yet another mass shooting with weapons bought legally, the NRA and its bought politicians, will go on about ‘responsible gun owners’.
They don’t seem to get that right up to the point where some shooting starts, the owner of the weapons meets that very definition of ‘responsible gun ownership’. After all, they haven’t killed anyone yet, right?
We don’t, to look at it from a different angle, say that a drunk driver is fine because they haven’t crashed into anyone yet. Or drug traffickers bringing in a shipment of coke/heroin should be let off as no one was harmed (yet). Yet the worship of guns, weapons designed to kill at a distance, is at the point where nothing else matters that the ‘rights’ to possess them, and who cares as to the consequences (unless you’re black of course, but given ‘existing while being black’ is almost a common-law crime worthy of extrajudicial execution we’re also talking something else there)
It’s a wonder no religion to worship firearms exists yet; the Israelites worshipping a Golden Calf being a not unreasonable (in my view) comparison, given we’re already half way there right now.
The 2nd Amendment has NEVER been interpreted to mean “anybody can have any weapon for any reason.” NEVER. Even in the Old West, in Dodge City and Tombstone, you had to surrender your gun at the town line. They weren’t allowed in town.
The idea that you have a “right” to walk around in a shopping mall with something that can murder 30 people in 30 seconds, and nobody can do anything about it until you actually START murdering people is completely insane.
Ironically, I was a Marine for 20 years and I was about as well regulated as an American can get and they kept my rifle, pistol and knives in a steel reinforced cage and only allowed me to visit it on special occasions. It was in gun jail. I have never been that helpless since.
So, does Trudeau perhaps read the comment section? Delightfully, this strip nails the fallacy in every point the gun-nuts raised in the epic 2nd amendment scrum we had a few weeks back.
If Sandy Hook didn’t change anything, nothing will.
Americans decided at that point that dead children was an acceptable price to pay in exchange for the ability for just about anybody to own any gun they want and all the ammunition they want.
I owed several guns over the 40 years that I hunted and never once contacted the NRA. In last 20 years they send out letters quarterly wanting me help them combat zealots want to take my guns away from me! I never went along with their insane logic about gun ownership! Look what we have to day, more guns than our entire population. If you are smarter then the gun(s) you own, can make one on your computer. You can make it untraceable and turn it to a rapid firing weapon. Thanks NRA and gutless congress!
The world stood by and did largely nothing after the existence of the Holocaust was revealed during WW2. Not much different reactions from those clinging to the 2nd Amendment.
I found it highly significant when hardcore conservative and lifelong NRA member George Bush resigned his membership and referred to them as “jackbooted thugs”.

“It?” Ahem. I believe the correct pronoun these days is “they.” If that confuses you, that’s your problem…

If increasing violence is an issue why would any rational concerned citizen make access to lethal mil-grade weapons easier?

Apparently, GT believes the second amendment is outdated.
OK, with what will it be replaced??
Maybe with an amendment stating specifically that only the armed forces and law-enforcement personnel are allowed to carry arms??
Fat chance!!
The Repukes would NEVER allow that to happen!!

As more and more kids and adults get shot, resistance to the NRA and its minions is growing. The kids with PTSD will be voting someday.
