Remember, he was upset about Alice being left money in Lacy’s will so apparently his motives were not entirely selfless. He’s a laughable foil, his bumbling interference which so irritated Lacey plays well against her inate good sense and dignity despite the onset of Alzheimers. She sought out Alice’s company, an unthinkable act in Jeremy’s case. She couldn’t stand him.
