My brother had a dog who recognized the word “stick” and connected it to going outdoors to play with the stick! If you just said the word, that would excite him like Pavlov’s dog drooling at the sound of the bell!
As our dogs get older, they want to get as excited as they used to when hearing the word “walkies” but their body just can’t. They are seniors now, and they do try – cause they want us to know that they are just as happy as always that they are going out. :)

We would have to substitute a hum for the words go, walk, ride, treat, outside, leash…

Hey, let him get excited. He spends most of his day just lying around the house listening for gophers.

Our dogs start jumping around any time I come downstairs, because they are certain that means a walk, food, or snack. Always, even when it doesn’t.
