If it were a bull market, we might not be so concerned. I love the idea that, if a law is well-considered and written to cover most of the bases, it’s “too long.” I also like the “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” mythology the right wing sells its Tea Party proles, that Senators sit around writing bills, reading them and voting on them. Hint, folks: They have staff members. Lots of them. Very smart people who write bills and read them and explain them to the Senators. And they could explain them to you, if you didn’t prefer to get your explanations from liars with chalkboards.
