I realize now how good we had it way back then. The biggest problem was trying to keep the chalk dust off your clothes when it was your turn to go outside to beat the erasers.
Every single year I took my child per her strong request to the office supply store before school started. Every single year we had to go back because whatever my child insisted on having was not to the exact requirements for the teachers. Oddly, I want to take this child, now a mother of two herself, to the office supply store every year, still. Twice. I really miss those years.
Funny how when you’re young, many have similar feelings about school. But as I told my students (I’m a teacher), “You’ll one day look back on this time as some of the most carefree years of your life and wish you could go back!”
Look forward to the day you’ll be old enough to drink beer and try and forget all about it. Of course, you’ll need the education to get a job to afford the beer. :)
I loved school when I had good teachers. Some made it heaven and some made it just like the first panel in this comic. I hope thats where those child hating creeps ended up. You know the ones-like the coaches who were forced to teach a class and hated it. Burn, Mr. Hicks! And then there are the ones who love kids and were always smiling and encouraging. I hope you got a double halo, Mrs. Levine!

I can imagine Gina at home, mourning as much as her students, and Mitzi trying to console her.

He looks too nerdish to not like school, maybe it’s the fear of facing the bullies again.

I saw the opening maw of hell, With endless pains and sorrows there; Which none but they that feel can tell — Oh, I was plunging to despair.
