That’s actually a big problem with surveys. The sample is tainted from the start—it’s no longer an accurate cross section of America—because certain types will not be willing to participate, and other types will. I don’t mind answering up to 3 questions, but many surveys are incredibly presumptuous in basically asking for your time for free. I am not going to spend 15-minutes answering questions if there’s nothing in it for me. Why would I work for free? Also, most of the questions are poorly worded in a way that already taints the results: “On a scale of 1-to-47, how would you rate your satisfied level of satisfaction with satisfying your experience satisfactorily? If we ask you 85 more questions that all sound exactly like this one, how satisfied are you that you or anyone has any idea what we are even talking about anymore?”

If a telemarketer calls, hand the phone to a 3 year old and say, “It’s Santa.”

I can’t remember the last time I have seen a wall mounted phone, or even outside of a business, a landline.

Ah. The CBS News poll. They have their finger on the pulse of America – and grandpa still has a landline.

SOMEBODY answers those surveys. If you are looking for suggestible people with time on their hands, you would want to know why.
