Can’t help remembering when I was a kid. The only activities we had were swimming lessons at the Y and Girl Guides once a week. The rest of our time we played outdoors and read books and comics. Weren’t we lucky!
Yeah, well, news flash for you Len—your kids aren’t always going to like the same things as you. Get used to it.
Personally, I’m starting to think letting Colin drop baseball isn’t going to cause any real harm in the long run, and he genuinely doesn’t seem interested, so no point trying to force him.
In today’s organized sports, the cost is prohibitive to only those who’s parents have a lot of money. Only the elite athletes actually play, the rest of the kids stay on the bench. Far too many “rules”. The score matters more than anything, and if you lose you are made to feel that it is your fault. Fun? Organized sports are no real fun at all. Too much stress and pressure on the kids to perform. Give me a ball a bat and an empty lot and I can guarantee there will be no lack of kids wanting to play. Street hockey? Most fun you can have with your clothes on. “Car!!!” yelled every 30 seconds and everyone cleared the street and then went back when the car passed by.If you want your kids to play out doors, leave them to it, do not interfere and allow their creativity to decide how to play. And most of all? NO RULES.
