We had problems with a few neighbors and our daughter’s cat. One didn’t like him pooping in their flower bed and I put in screening on the ground for him and gave him cat repellent. He was thrilled that I went to that much effort. The other wouldn’t use the cat repellent and kept coming to the house when I wasn’t home to yell at my wife and daughter. The coward wouldn’t answer his door when I came knocking.We tried to keep the cat in but he was miserable. He didn’t fight and our other neighbors enjoyed his visits. I warned the cowardly neighbor that there would be consequences if anything that he kept threatening happened to our cat. He kept complaining to the neighbors but never came to my house again.
I’m half and half on this myself, because I can see both sides of the matter. I’m inclined to side with Len, because I agree if a cat is an outdoor cat, then if you can find a way to accommodate that, then that’s great. Yet at the same time, I relent that there are circumstances where it presents a needless danger to the cat.
I’m especially hung up on the matter because in this case, it’s not that the danger to Harry is anything that can’t be controlled like traffic or other predators but rather just Harry being your typical tomcat and getting into fights with other cats. And to me, trapping Harry inside wouldn’t truly resolve the core problem there.
But I digress, I suppose. These are all reruns anyway, so it’s not like anything I say can change what’s going to happen.
I personally will never have an outdoor cat again. Of course, cats get dumped on our street regularly, and I do pitch in with the neighbors to get those strays sterilized.
