Reminds me of the old fiat spider. Never was into scarves though!

Just “tooned” in for the first time today, thought the strip looked reminiscent of a past era, and looked up the ‘toonist. Come to find out Emmy Lou debuted in 1951, replacing the earlier Bobby Sox. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marty_Links) There’s a really interesting interview with Marty Links on You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiaXZvFWS5c) Ms. Links says Emmy Lou is meant to be 14 years old. (And she and boyfriend Alvin stayed the same age for a long time.) I didn’t read enough to find out when the strip ended, but it ran all through the years of intense feminism, which was one of the influences in Ms. Links’ life. A great bit of nostalgia from my own teen years in the ’60s, when I was definitely not reading newspapers, even the comics!

I love the car, which has a bench seat in the front. It was so cool to sit right next to one’s boyfriend while driving, and when not driving….well…

The strip ended in 1979, and Ms. Links passed on in 2008 (b. 1917). She had a good long run.

Belatedly, just read the comments from yesterday, including the ones from Ms. Links’ son-in-law. What a treat!

@Night-Gaunt Me, neither. At fourteen, I was in high school, but I was definitely not allowed to ride in cars with other kids driving. And nobody I knew drove, anyway.
