Evolving from fool to doltI hate to say this, since I have become very attached to both Wally and Holly, but Wally has been a bit of a fool during this arc, and today he has graduated to full blown dolt. The houseHolly ran to her home before running to the tower. It seems that it was only when she saw her house a total wreck that she totally lost it and became suicidal. So right off the bat Wally’s negligence is a nontrivial contributing factor to Holly’s breakdown. There is no excuse that for over a month Wally left everything the way it was the day of the raid. Even if it was too big a job for him to do himself and he didn’t have enough friends to help, Holly has many, many friends. All he would have had to do is put out the word that Holly needed help.Add to this the perks he was supposed to get for going on the mission with Flask (assuming they weren’t lost when Flask failed to return with them), and he should have been able to get whatever he needed to fix things up.The only possible redemption for Wally on this point would be if he has instead prepared a new home for them. Even so, he should have called after Holly when she started running home to let her know that they had moved in her absence.Holly’s returnNext off, Wally should have run up to her the second she stepped off of the elevator, even if the press was waiting. Linda and Maude don’t have anyone in their lives to be there for them, but Wally should have gathered Holly into his arms and comforted her rather than let the press get at her, an unpleasant experience even for someone who is whole and healthy. There didn’t seem to be any security present that would have prevented him from running to her when she got off the elevator. But even if there was and we didn’t see it, he wasn’t even near the front of the crowd. It looks as if he was standing back from the crowd waiting for Holly to come to him!!(BTW – not that I see any way that he could have done it, but bonus points would have been awarded for having a cheese basket with him when she was freed. Speaking of cheese, even with milk from Maude, without cultures Holly may not be able to restock her cheese supply at this point.)Today’s failureWhich brings us to today, where Wally gets a failing grade as a partner, as a lover, even as a friend.I can understand Wally’s answering Angus’ first question. But after that, even if she seems unconscious, Wally’s full attention should have been exclusively on Holly. He should have been hugging her tightly, cheek-to-cheek, not just holding her.He should have been talking to her, telling how worried he’d been when he heard that she’d been arrested, how he had tried to rescue her, how much he’s missed her, how much he feared for her wellbeing during the trial and how he had been praying for her safe return. He should have been reassuring her that he still loved her very much, that he would always be there for her and that he was going to take care of her.And he should have been begging her to never leave him.And even if he hasn’t had a chance to process her comment about losing a baby (personally, in his position, even if I hadn’t previously known anything about it, I would have instantly assumed that the baby was ours and immediately joined her in feeling a great sense of loss), he should have been comforting her and sharing her loss.Absolutely he needs to get her to the hospital. Even if there wasn’t a question of Holly’s mental health, it is obvious that she became much more ill from her captivity than her fellow prisoners. Add that she’s potentially had a recent miscarriage, and you get an ambulance as quickly as you can.If Holly wasn’t so ill, it would have been appropriate for Wally to take her home (where?) and bath her and calm her. At the hospital, he shouldn’t stand back and return to the spectator mode that he seems to have been in. He should personally take part in her personal (non-medical) care, not leaving it up to others to do.And if he doesn’t already have alternative housing arranged, he needs to make sure that something better than a flat at Maude’s is ready for them well before Holly’s discharge. And if he has half a brain in his head, as soon as Holly’s recovered from her physical and mental injuries, he should propose to her before she gets away.
