Because driving in 2 dimensions isn’t dangerous enough, let’s give people access to that 3rd dimension. Make sure you have your insurance papers properly mounted inside your Air-to-Air missile delivery system.
Great visuals, but difficult to believe. With a mutated pilot that plane should be doing a nosedive – unless it’s on autopilot, in which case nobody would ever know until it ran out of gas – and then did a nosedive.
You know what would be bad? What would be bad is if Holly has the twelve-pack of BuddiBombs in the trunk because she was going to return them for a refund…
Panel 3 – the plane clipped the top of the car.Panel 4 – that looks like Holly’s car heading earthwards. Also there seems to be some flaming something in the top left hand corner.
I wonder if the cops have machine guns in their flying cars like the ones from The Fifth Element. Apex Multipass allows you to fly in the toll lanes without the risk of people falling from the sky and landing inside your car.
On a technical note, I’d like to give Aaron credit for having the propeller disintegrate after striking Holly’s car. It may have been a glancing blow but that would damage a blade (or perhaps blades) enough to throw the prop out of balance. At the speeds the prop would be turning, it wouldn’t take much of an imbalance to shake the prop apart.Holly’s car is going down, I don’t know if the apparently light damage crippled a major system or if Holly’s diving in panic. She also may want to get her car on the ground quickly just in case the damage is worse than she thought. One interesting thought is that air car licenses must be fairly easy to get. I think it has been only a few months since she and Lyn saw the monster and found themselves proud owners of a pair of air cars. That suggests that air cars are much easier to pilot than conventional aircraft AND that driver training does not include emergency procedures like making an emergency landing in case the vehicle is damaged. Holly may be trying to wing it here.
Lin is doomed…..he is in the building that plane is fixing to crash in to.A 9-11 moment in Hillside.I don’t know if this is a mutation or a deliberate act by the pilot.Remember at the shower they talked about others wanting to do things like demonstrate and maybe even attack them hence the buddibombs. This may be an attack.
Looks like Holly is going down…..Lin must have skimped on the Collision avoidance upgrade on the car when he bought it. Probably thought that was mad too.
Looking at the last panel there maybe something that is information, but what? there is something falling or being thrown in the top of the last panel. It has to be from anther course, because it hasn’t been flung from being hit by the airplane.I haven’t read the comments yet, but hope someone knows what that could be. Has the war just now broken out?
Can’t be that bad. It only costs a few bucks to become a licensed drone pilot. Now, if the FAA made getting a license as bad as going to the DMV, then yeah… that would be horrible.
Is that rounded shape just above the roof of Holly’s damaged aircar in the last panel a building? If so it’s smack dab in the middle of her current course…
I’m still worried that she has a dozen buddibombs in the car with her. Why would a mutation in the plane be likely t this time?It does seem more like an attack of some kind, against Holly, and/or Lyn, or at the Apex building.
To Wabbit- which building are you talking about? The towers were steel frameworks and sheathing with little else in the way. And the wings, especially early on in a flight, carry the bulk of the fuel, so are a large percent of the mass of the plane, so would have some carry though. Conversely, against the Pentagon, being a rather massive chuck of masonry, a plane would more splat, and wad up into a relatively limited volume mass.
Technology is why we don’t have “flying cars”. If we look at the stories where vertical takeoff and landing aircraft are a middle class proposition, they either have some sort of antigravity system (making them small, easily maneuvered airships) or extremely cheap thrusters (think Lola from the Agents of Shield, or Tony Stark’s Ironman suit). The closest thing we have to one of Aaron’s air cars in real life is a light helicopter and they are too complicated, and require too much fuel and maintenance for a four seat helicopter to EVER be a middle class proposition.
The pointless link I posted was from a song published in 1985. The idea of crashing planes into buildings was still somewhat new, with operation nortwoods and all. The thought was already in the mindset with Lone Gunmen and all, horrors tend to echo backward in time. Which is why psychics tend to suck, it never exactly works in a linear sense.
Meanwhile, I’m getting tired of being proven right.
Given the bow ties and other design affectations that Arron has in the scenario, prop airliners would be natural (they continued to be used well in to the ’60s in main line service, jets were usually phased in for particular routes where their range and speed made a real difference)
Props are stilled used on commercial flights. Huntsville Alabama still had some DASH-7’s coming in at least 5 years ago and in Salt Lake, Denver and Portland, Oregon had some “puddle jumpers” as late as 2014 (Horizon Air, USAir, United Express, American and Delta Connect)

Apparently mutations can also happen in the sky

I’m thinking this plane is coming down not ’cause of mechanical trouble…

“To prevent accidental damage when parking, the manufacturer’s put the anti-gravity mechanism in the roof of the cars.”

Where are Wally & company in panel 4? There’s nobody in the back seat!

Can’t see into the back seat over the back of the front seat. See how high it is in panel 2.

Of course this happens right after you get your car waxed and detailed…

Uh oh, Holly’s car doesn’t look to stable. Can the anti-grav keep her from a hard landing? Is this where she loses the baby?

Anyone know what makes my comments post twice?
AbatedBreath almost 9 years ago
Oh, got it. I’m the only one seeing that.
Hmm, maybe the copilot dozed off and is now an anthro trying to fight off a monster and control a plane while in mutated form.
gigagrouch almost 9 years ago
i believe that’s called “controlled flight into the ground.” It’s happened sometimes when the autopilot got disengaged and no one noticed.

Maybe the plane was on its proper path. After fighting with Lynn, a distracted Holly could have veered out of her proper flight lane.

Actually, the plane is angled to fly just to the left side of the tall building.

I take it there’s some controversy (I prefer to call it “backlash”) about these “Buddibombs” given the little issue Holly and Lyn had a few days ago.
