Looks like we are about to have one less child of anthros….

This is what happens when you don’t interrupt your elders! I hope he still has his knife, or that Alan is watching.

But the attack suggests that the creature is used to picking off prey above the water. Birds, perhaps, but then it sees Duffy in a boat as prey, so maybe there are other boats on this world, with “people” on them?

So is she saying that the world’s physics have changed, so anthro progeny are the “next generation humans”, just in various animal-like shapes? Unity Colony taught us that anthro pairings don’t necessarily produce offspring that resembles the parents (hence their practice of candling the eggs).

So apparently she’s saying the anthro children will live out normal human lifespans, regardless of their anthro form. Wally, as a first-generation anthro, is apparently now limited to a cat’s lifespan of around 18-24 years, give or take. The myopia issue is interesting — Chic knew many fingers he and everyone else around them had on each hand, even when Kirbee and Wally did not (May 3). https://www.gocomics.com/endtown/2019/05/03

Any moment now I expect Duffy to make a comment that he’s under attack. Maybe Alan will notice, but I get the feeling he’s probably sitting on the floor of the boat not paying any attention to much of anything, too busy sulking about his current situation.

@Baslim - We still haven’t seen any birds flying around, so I expect this predator is simply going after anything it can. A fish in water, or something above water, it isn’t making any distinction. It’s a possibility that in that reality there may be other boats so the predator is accustomed to picking off prey that way, but we don’t know yet. :)

Topsider: “…….They re products of this new world, which is why they and their descendances are the true inheristors of the Earth”….MIND BLOWN…..A topsider’s usual reaction to mutants is to kill them in order to make a new, human pure world. :/

She’s right. I wondered about the rest of the world. Irving and that one sprout outside their apartment’s window are the first signs of ANY other life besides the anthros and the monsters we’ve seen. Did the Ames radiation wipe everything out? Turning all the plants and animals into dust? Is there life outside the Great Waste where the colonies are located? We’ve really only seen as much of the environment of this world as the characters can walk to or ride to in one of the trucks. This most recent colony is the first to even be by a body of open water. We haven’t seen anything like crabs, shells or fish washed ashore, though, just sand and water.

So the Topsiders are doomed. They can never leave the suit. It looks to me her team might have been working on a way to move on without too much trauma to everyone. The mutation effect is inevitable. Cardoodles inheriting the Earth!! Oh and get someone over there to Duffy…..tell him to quit messing with that fishy!!

It’s been some time since I’ve read the relevant comics, but we have seen people change, and I don’t recall any of them being particularly amnesiac. Poor Jim developed Schism Syndrome, but that was in large part due to the friction between what he had been and what he became.

As for the absence of actual animals, well… There was an apocalypse. Has this lady seen the surface?

After some thought it seems to me her team was trying to work out the mutation problem of inconsistency. She said she’s seen it all from giant monsters to mayflies. It would be a great discovery if they could workout the perfect mutation process. A 1,2,3 step with little to zero chance of it going wrong. She knows that a mutant born of mutant is the best option so to state this she has to have seen it. I don’t see her speculating about these kind of things. She and her team knows………they just haven’t figured out how to make the mutation process perfect rather than a roll of the dice.

I thought the whole point of this quest was to fix this “new world”. I was getting the impression from previous strips that just maybe, if they were somehow able to untwist the multiverses knickers, perhaps everything would revert to “normal”.

Some of what she says seems to be from direct observation seen during experimentation (on inhabitants of Eden?). Although we haven’t seen memory loss after mutation, apparently she has. But, neither Kirbee or Wally can remember how they got to Eden. Is there something about Eden that causes that? Could Eden be the center of all this cross-dimensional bru-ha-ha? Did the Eden experiment cause this…and is it the reason only this iteration of the Endtown reality is still alive when all others around it are dead?( as described by the Fitz A.I.)

To me, what she is saying is this: The offsprings of the mutants do not know and will not understand ever being “human”. They know that they have four fingers, or three, or whatever. They will not be confused by thinking they should have five. Their lifespan will not be normal human lifespan. They will be whatever it is for the “race” or “species” they have become. So, when someone mutated into an insect, say a fly, their lifespan became the lifespan of a fly. If they were able to successfully mate and have offspring before their allotted time and those offsprings were also flies, then their offspring would only live the normal life of a fly and not a human. Also, if this is true about lifespans then intelligence and eating patterns would also be similarly affected. End of the human race and back to evolution. Sorry, just came by this comic by accident. I was trying to read another.

If all wildlife has disappeared, what did the sea creature/mutant live on? It looks like it had to be eating other sea dwelling mutants. Grabbing people off of boats must be a relatively rare event.

That’s the way fishing works without rod. You just have to get the fish in the boat now Duffy :)

I guess the “ziplock bag” inhibits peripheral vision, otherwise I think the topsider would notice that Duffy has a rope around his throat squeezing the life out of him!
