FYI – hybrid tea roses have soft cuticle(leaf surface) that is easy to chew through. That is why the Japanese beetle will attack your teas and not the other types, if at all then very little. Same reason deer eat the teas.
I knew a gardener who carefully hand-picked slugs, snails, bugs and caterpillars then dumped them over the back fence into a stony field where the local crows would feast on them. They started waiting for her handout every morning and evening. One crow perched on the fence watching for her to show up with her coffee can of goodies and then hollered for the rest of the flock.

Every day I search my organic tomato plants for caterpillars. When I find one, I say “Thank you for coming,” and crush them.
