Because, when they do wear them, they are forced to stand up straight and throw their shoulders back for balance, which, of course, causes their breasts to be thrust forward.
Foot binding was an upper class thing, and it was done to show that the girls came from wealthy families and had servants to do everything for them. Ordinary women had to work and needed fully functional feet. My wife’s family is from Hainan Island, and she has a pair of the shoes worn by her grandmother. They easily fit into the palm of my hand,
