Beware. Sometimes these volunteers steal your records, make whoopee with your housekeeper, and gross you out with their goiter despite having made wild passionate love with Gandhi back in the day!
We have paid home-care providers who help with my husband while I’m at work. The long-term care insurance is just about to begin chipping in for part of the cost after we’ve met the deductible. They’ve been a godsend, and we’ve had no problems with any of them.
My late father, who was an Anglican minister, would visit the elderly and make them a cup of tea and visit. He was in his late eighties when he stopped because he could no longer drive.

This is my mom. She’s 93 and keeps tabs on some of her younger friends.

My great-Aunt Alice volunteered at the local nursing home when she was 83; only stopping when she passed away at 85.
