They’ve already proven the college is within fairly easy driving distance. Why wouldn’t they take him to help him in move into his dorm for the first time? That’s a rite of passage for the child AND the parent.
My third son set off for college on a long bus ride from Ohio to Wisconsin. I wanted to drive him but dad refused to drive that far, I wasn’t comfortable driving alone for such a long drive. We had a very emotional goodbye at the bus station.
