Boy: Mr. Crane says you won't be coming back in September. Elizabeth: I'll write. I'll come to visit. Boy: I knew you'd leave. Everyone I care about goes away. My Mom, my Dad... you... Elizabeth: Jesse! Please - don't say that! You're a wonderful person! It's not your fault that people have to leave Mtigwaki. These things just happen. Boy: No they don't. You told the whole class that there's a reason for everything.
This is easily the most painful part of this arc thus far (i’m reading the final years of the strip for the first time this week). Jesse has far and away been the best part of elizabeth’s time here, a fun sidekick for her, a student and a friend and one of the series best kid characters. And again elizabeth has every reason to go closer to home.. but to Jesse he’s loosing his big sister , someone he loved and respected as a mentor and a friend he could always rely on and it just.. plain hurts.
