Oh my Gosh! Is this woman really that thick? What did she expect Connie to say - “Oh I’m returning Phil’s pipe in the hope that he’ll fall in love with me, take me in his arms and kiss me with wild abandon. But, I see he isn’t here right now, so I’ll pop back later.” ? Is this why Elly has these women as friends - so she can feel intellectually superior? If so, she must have loved having a pet rock.
NoahsMaman*: Can you honestly say that you’ve never had a friend who’s done this kind of thing (or something equally similar) in your lifetime when emotions run high?
Okay….didn’t we establish that she was at the wrong address? She never did return the pipe from our view… Let me hush for someone thinks my discussing this is taking the comic too seriously. I’m a person who likes consistency.
I wonder, to the old readers of the strip - Is that black haired woman supposed to be Georgia? If so I thought that Phil met her later and she had longer hair at that time. Plus a comic later in the series mentions that the two later meet at a Barbecue for the first time.
@Ji2m - wouldn’t ruin mine either. However, we do have the right to questiong the author (I learned this in my Eng. 1101. LOL!) I just like the discussions, they break up the monotony(sp?) of my day..
I agree, arsmall, I like the discussions too. I don’t think it was ever established that Phil went to the wrong address. The only reason we think that is because howtheduck or someone else went back in the archives. But maybe Lynn is adding a new twist to the new version.
p.s. I don’t have time to go through the history, so my memory may be faulty.
Judging by the conversation at the door, that’s the right address. I think that the girl who answered the door is a relative, or friend, or something of that nature. Connie should not have assumed they were lovers.
So much for those of us who make assumptions. We had all decided that Connie had gone to the wrong address, and we had also decried Connie possibly returning the pipe “offscreen”. Maybe next time we’ll just wait for the story to play out.
Nah, that’ll never happen.
I’m on Connie’s side with her reply. I would have said that I have things to do as well, to save face and not show the desperation Connie feels. However, as a mother, I would not have done what Connie did and put chasing Phil above my son. I understand the power of loneliness, however I think there must be a point where common sense kicks in and you realize you’re not getting anywhere. As for Elly, she should realize if Connie wants everyone or anyone for that matter to know about this, then Connie would tell them. I know people who have learned it the hard way, and I was fortunate enough to learn it as a bystander!
Even if she was at the right address, and there was another woman answering the door, it didn’t stop the brazen, hussy from continuing to stalk him, making a further fool of herself, broken legged son and all.
Just like the gossip queen, all she continued to think about was herself, knowing she shouldn’t be doing what she was doing, she purposely and consciously chose the wrong path anyway, so she deserves what she got. Every which way around, including that horrible, brown, afro.
And there’s no reason to call Phil a womanizer. He’s a young single dude who plays jazz trumpet and dates women. Normal to the point of utterly boring.
Susan, you are just as correct and reasonable here as at the other site, which is why I think you ARE Susan Sunshine! I did not see all of FBFW the first time around. It would be good if the “equivalent” episode could be posted here at another address “classic” so we could learn…
I agree with you 100%!! Your comments about the brazen hussy with the broken legged son and the gossip queen made me laugh! Too funny!
And I think Connie’s subsequent hairdo is divine retribution for her behavior! When she looks in the mirror, it should be a reminder to her to change her hussy ways! LOL!
Ya, but there’s nothing funny about this “COMIC”. It’s a soap opera. Go worship your trolls and your crystals (You insulted people’s religions the other day, we can give it back.), and leave the conversation to us, since you never have anything to say but to keep telling us “IT’S A COMIC!”, because you always support Elly and Connie doing everything wrong and backwards, and you don’t like what anyone else has to say.

This version is how Connie (wrongly) remembers it. And how gossip spreads.

Didn’t Connie go to the wrong address, see the woman there, freak out and leave without saying anything?

There was a later strip where the dark-haired woman was identified as Phil’s housekeeper.

Either way, it serves her right.

GretchensMom, I answered your question yesterday.
ocean17 over 14 years ago
Connie got a fabulous new hairdo out of it at least, so driving to Montreal wasn’t a total waste of time and gas. They know about hairdos in Montreal.

Regardless of who the girl was, Phil made it pretty obvious when they did meet, that he was not at all interested in seeing her.
