When I read this I see the word ‘demonstration’ and ‘party’ but in the words of her son who has only school class as a reference for ‘make-up’, he understands that all that stuff really is just a “test”!
“Beauty is a bikini wax, and waiting for your nails to dry.
Beauty is a colored pencil, circled all around your eye.
Beauty is a pair of shoes, that make you wanna die.
Beauty is a… beauty is a… beauty is a… LIE!!”
Here’s another vote for natural. I haven’t worn make-up for years and my husband enjoys the look. Also, I don’t have to waste my time or worry about someone seeing me without my face “on”. An added benefit: think of all the money saved!!!
I have to admit I came of age in the ’60s and I suscribe to the natural look as much as possible. And Allen V. (welcome neighbor), shaving is preferable but I am not going to be stickler about it.
One of my least favorite looks (currently popular with the young ones) is the “racoon look” with a huge black ring all around the eyes. What is that all about?
I must admit however, I knew a woman who appeared quite striking. Until you looked under the makeup and realized her natural bone structure and such really was not very attractive. Makeup, artfully applied, was a plus for her. But those cases are few and far between, IMHO.
Beauty is between the ears, not on the surface in front of them. That said, some people can get away with the natural look and some need a little help. Emphasis on “a little”.
While most of the time, I wear little to no makeup, if I’m going somewhere I wear some. As long as it’s tasteful, some makeup is fine and it’s not camouflage. The people who love you know what you look like without makeup.
I met my mister on an online dating site and my picture was me with no make-up and I even posted that, I don’t do make-up and natural is who I am. I stated that make-up hides a natural beauty. Jim (my mister) told me it was that line on my profile that hooked him!
Paying 10-20 bucks for 50 cents worth of toxic sludge to smear on your face is sensible? And people with zits- hello? Plugging the pores even more is gonna help? Women should tell men that if they like makeup (and high heels) so much, THEY can wear them.
That happened to me!!! I went to a Mary Kay party, loved the look at first, so my husband bought me the whole kit’n’kaboodle…and a few days later, RASH CITY!!!
How nice it must be to be a “natural” beauty. Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with such good luck so we need at least a little bit of make-up to make us feel good about ourselves when we’re around other people so we don’t feel quite so self-conscious.
Meanwhile, when it comes to make-up, facial cleansers, lotions/moisturizers, etc., I have to read the ingredient labels very carefully because I’m extremely allergic to a chemical in a lot of these products called “propylene glycol” (you’d be surprised how many products out there have this in it and it can be difficult sometimes to find things I need that doesn’t have it). If I accidentally touch my skin with anything containing p.g. in it, I break out in an ugly, itchy rash that looks way worse than Elly’s face does and I have to make an emergency appointment with my dermatologist for an allergy shot and obscenely expensive topical medicine to make it (eventually) go away.
Allan V, have you ever wondered why American women usually shave their pits and legs, while many European women don’t?
In the early 1900’s, when it became culturally acceptable for women to were sleeveless swimming costumes, the Gillette Company saw a new market for their products.
They started a media blitz to convince women that they needed to shave to be considered beautiful. At the same time, Gillette introduced a “ladies” razor so they could rake in the profits.

It’s not nice to fool with Mother Nature, Elly.
And Michael’s comment in the second panel? OUCH!

@legaleagle48, I said Michael’s comment to my sisters when I was younger and it was a laugh riot. (for me of course)

Poor Elly. I know just how she feels. Even the so-called hypoallergenic makeups give me hives.

My philosophy has always been: I just have to wear this face; I don’t have to look at it!

I agree with LadyFinger - natural is better (well, except in some cases i.e. woman SHOULD ALWAYS shave their pits and legs… just sayin[)

Change of subject: I really enjoyed the product names Lynn came up with. And grape plus avocado! Anyone want to give it a try?
