Yeah, I still have plates from both babies’ 1st birthdays. I think I’ll just have to use them for a picnic because no self-respecting kid will use them.
I ran into this exact scenario yesterday, but while shopping for buttons. I needed 6 buttons to spiff up a blouse. Everything on the button card was 4 and 5 buttons. I walked out without a purchase. I had button sticker shock. The prices for nice buttons was very high.
Most moms back in my time (and the one represented here) took pride in doing everything personally for kids parties. I had 4 and did different themes every time. I kept doing it until one of the boys parties turned into a food fight in our basement with chocolate cake, ice cream and whatever. All the moms appologised tho’ and most of the boys came back to clean up (as well as they could) but I still had quite a lot more than normal so – no more parties for the boys (all well into teens by then and I was busy w/ a divorce).
Similar to hot dogs come in packages of 8, hot dog buns come in packages of 10. I never figured that out, unless it was a convenient way to encourage American’s to remember how to find common multiples.

I don’t think the guests care what kind of plates you use as long as there is food on them!

We’ve done Chuck E Cheese a few times and it worked out great. No planning, buying, cleaning up and the kids loved it.

shudder I’ll take the aggravation over 2 hours in the 5th level of hell known as “Chuck E Cheese”

Funny you said that, Meowlin. The blouse came from the thrift store and I was loath to pay for buttons that cost twice what I paid for the blouse.
