Happened to me. Way back in the eighties, when wallpapers were in fashion, I wallpapered a country style pattern with roosters and wheats. The roll with both roosters and wheats were put up on the focal wall while the rest were wallpapered with just wheat. I never noticed that they were upside down until some time later. I went “OH NO!” but funny thing was nobody even noticed. I thought maybe people were too polite to point that out so I brought it up and all of them squinted their eyes and said, ‘Oh yeah. They’re upside down. Wow, I never noticed." I learned that people don’t really pay attention to small details.
I like the way Elly is going out of her way to fish for compliments and bragging on herself. In an Emperor’s New Clothes kind of moment, Mike says what the rest of the family is thinking, but is too frightened to say.
There was a mini-story in Reader’s Digest where somebody did this with a wallpaper with a vine pattern. She didn’t notice there were birds sitting on the vines until she hung all the wallpaper with them hanging upside down. Somebody who noticed asked her if she thought they were bats.
I did this. I had become somewhat good at wallpapering and offered to do my mother-in-law’s kitchen. She chose a Lily of the Valley pattern, and it wasn’t until I’d finished the entire room that she noticed the blossoms were upside down!
Details. I knew someone that worked at the Quincy Drive In and ran a 5 reel war movie. When done, realized he had run reels 1, 2, 4, 3, 5. But, nobody noticed. So, next night he ran 1, 4, 3, 2, 5 and still no complaints!

Elly works hard and nobody notices or says thank you. If they’re upside down you just act like you meant to hang them that way.

Everyone else does it that way, but our family is different.
