12/30/2019 Panel 1: Wow! It’s almost a whole new year!
1/1/1991 Panel 1: Wow! It’s 1991! — It’s a whole new year!
The rest of the dialogue is unaltered from 1991. It reminds me a lot of the old TV shows from the 1950s where the actors in the show would stop the action and start hawking a product. Buy Snoopy calendars folks!
Everyone I know had an over abundance of problems in 2019 and they keep talking mercury in retrograde and position of planets. I know darn well it is that Murphy guy.
It’s our New Year’s tradition that, after the ball drops on TV, our daughters & I (my husband is usually working NYE) toast in the new year with sparkling grape, talk about our favorite thing of the past year, mention something we’re looking forward to in the new year, then we change all of the calendars (we each have one, and we’ve already written important dates like birthdays in them).
We are always amazed at all the whitespace on a new calendar page (or the whiteboard version), compared to all the activities and appointments on the old one. The electronic one (Google Calendar), on the other hand, is always full with the repeating and other previously-entered events. But better a busy calendar than one with nothing to do or to remember.
It is funny though, how in that era … my family included, our life story was told by the writing on the fridge calendar. This brings back good memories of mom and dads’s kitchen growing up. <3

Speaking of baby births, I’m looking forward to the birth of my older brother’s second child (and our fifth stepsister’s third child) in 2020.

There’s a lot of history last year that I wish did not happen. Much more than usual, that is.

What a fresh perspective, Elizabeth. I never looked at a new calendar that way.

I like the optimistic thoughts, Elizabeth. It won’t change anything that’s going to happen, but perhaps it can help my attitude while it happens.

Love your optimism here, Liz.

A little ironic that she is putting up a Peanuts calendar. I think it is a positive sign.

Including (one hopes) a new President….

Nice little homage to “Sparky” Schulz there. He and Lynn were friends. And as Duck says elsewhere, all of the Patterson’s calendars were “Peanuts”.
