He wants his parents to see him in that outfit? I would think most teenagers wouldn’t care to show to parents what they wear to work. Most of them are likely to just walk to the door and announce “Bye” or wait for their ride to work. I remember my first work uniform at McDonalds 40 years ago. A dorky polyester drab brown outfit with a matching visor. Nowadays, the employees wear their own clothes – wear just their work-issued name tags. Guess they wised up on wasting money on uniforms. Name tags would suffice.
Oh man, I was wrong. He’s working as a waiter in a fancy restaurant. I had previously thought that he was working in a grocery store, with his job talk of stacking shelves and carrying stuff out to cars!
When I was in high school, I worked as a bus boy at a private country club. I had to wear a white shirt, black pants, black socks and shoes, a black tie… Not a bowtie, a regular tie… I had a clip-on… LOL… And then I had to wear a red jacket with a gold name tag. It really was a great job to have at that point in my life. I also worked there my first summer back from college, and many times during Christmas break they always needed extra help for ballroom parties, so I would work for a couple of weeks during break to get extra money.
My first real job in the 60’s in supermarket we had to have a white shirt and bow tie. Us boomers have a different perspective on life and life is more casual today, but I tell you some things never change. Women still love a man in uniform, it doesn’t even have to be a military uniform, my security guard uniform was a chick magnet.
At 16 I took a summer job at a large day camp/riding stables as one of the two western riding instructors. The head of the riding area, one of the main focuses of the camp, was a former international dressage/jumping champion who was quite snooty and over bearing. In her little world English riding was the only suitable style of riding. I think what galled her the most was that the kids loved Katie and I and the ones that also did dressage/jumping just tolerated her.
We taught kids how to care for the horses, as well as ride and took them on a lot of great, enjoyable rides through the hills and pastures owned by the camp. They always looked forward to the final day when we would take them on a ride to a distant clear water spring fed pond, where the kitchen staff would have a lovely picnic set out. By the time this happened, every two weeks for the western riding kids, the kids didn’t complain, nor even hesitate when they had to walk their horses too cool down before we ate. They weren’t seasoned riders but they had the skills to build on not only riding skills, but the skills needed to care for an animal. We saw several of the kids repeatedly over the summer. In our last year there we developed an advanced western riding course for those kids that wanted to continue.
Our uniform was simple and practical as well. Jeans, boots, shirt and a western hat. The kids wore what they wanted, but were required to wear proper boots for safety reasons. Most after the first day were in jeans and a t shirt as well, hats were optional as they were only in class for a couple of hours.
When my Uncle Dick and Uncle Roger were fitted with their ushers’ tuxes for Aunt Mary’s wedding, she commented that they looked like a couple of headwaiters. At the end of the wedding, when she and Uncle Vaughan turned to go down the aisle, she burst out laughing. They were standing at the door with towels over their arms.
The workers at our Publix grocery store wear either polo shirts or long sleeved button down ones in “Publix Green” with the store’s logo on it. Managers may wear short sleeved buttoned down shirts as well.
At our Winn-Dixie, they all wear red tee shirts. If they are there more than a month, they get one with the store logo on it.
On my last trip to Walmart, the staff wore whatever they wanted with a blue vest over it.
The days of dressing like he is are done. Also, wearing white while working someplace where you are bound to get dirty both looks bad to the customer (a s you may start the day nice and clean but seldom end it that way) and makes the worker have to spend a fortune keeping it clean.

Why is Michael annoyed? I think it was a sweet thing to say, much better than SOME things she could have said.

I’m just a gigolo and everywhere I go
People know the part I’m playing
Paid for every dance, selling each romance
Ooh, what they’re sayin’
There will come a day when youth will pass away
What will they say about me?
When the end comes, I know
They were just the gigolos
Life goes on without me
I’m just a gigolo and everywhere I go
People know the part Dave’s playing
Paid for every dance, selling each romance
Ooh, what they’re sayin’
But there will come a day when youth will pass away
What will they say about me?
When the end comes, I know
It was just a gigolo
Life goes on without me, ’cause

FIFTEEN YEARS LATER…
Anthony: Elizabeth, there is going to be the pitter-patter of little feet around here soon.
Elizabeth: I am having a baby?!
Anthony: No, Shorty Muldoon, from Durberville Deadbeat Collection Agency, is coming around to repossess the car!
LATER…
Elizabeth: Michael, what do you think of my new work uniform?
