As a father of a non-communicative child (just starting to come at age 4), I found it’s best to give them positive attention and interaction during play, and when they lose focus for anything in particular just take their hand and calmly walk away. Sometimes accompanied with “we’re going home”, or “time to eat”, or “back to mom”.
