My late husband was a rock hound. When he passed away suddenly last year, I found a bunch of rocks in baggies with what kind he thought they were and where he found them. His mom is also a rock hound, so I gave them to her. I kept a few of the more interesting ones that I keep on my desk.
I have a rock in my living room (~4×6×2) that my 5yo grandson found in my yard about a year ago. Note: there a LOT of rocks in my yard. It has been many things. A dinosaur bone, a pirate hoard, a Super Power Ranger Morpher. I also have a rock in the flower bed by the front door that his sister painted and used to mark her cat’s grave. She was 8 and we had to bring it when we moved a couple of years later. Rocks are important.
Many years ago, we were vacationing at a Cyprus beach town. I found what to my 10 year-old eyes was a fabulous rock; perfectly round and smooth, not quite 3” diameter, with a neat white on grey pattern. Of course I saved it and brought it to my hotel room.
A few days later the rock was gone. I probably questioned the parents.
Next day I went exploring and FOUND my rock. I suspect my mom didn’t want to pack it home because of the added weight.
