OKay.. this one is random and I do not understand this one

you just need to know that pearls before swine (another great comic, btw) has loads of bad puns, similar to the one jason’d set up.

Here’s Bill’s blog post:
“Stephan Pastis sometimes does this sort of extreme rhyming in Pearls Before Swine and it seemed like a fun thing for Jason to try. The “noodle incident” was a never-explained event occasionally referred to in Calvin and Hobbes.”
http://www.foxtrot.com/2009/12/12062009/
Today’s rhyming pun in Pearls is “Dunk rye for me, Arch and Tina” (say it out loud fast).

Bill and Stephan musta planned today’s strips for sure….

Ordway to C&H, Ixnay to Pearls!

Way more ambitious than anything Stephan’s gone for.
But that’s Jason for you.

Since years, I want to know what the “noodle incident” was. Jason pleeeaase tell!
anne-marie hunter almost 15 years ago
knowing Calvin, it is far better to let your imagination run with the idea…..
jsheehan223 almost 15 years ago
Stephan does a great job with those puns/rhymes. He even makes fun of himself when he does it, too. Rat usually always goes into his office and tell him that he’s going to slap him or something. Pearls is one of my favorite strips as of late.
gtsagan almost 15 years ago
This is what comics call a labored gag.

Which was Bill Watterson’s point when he set up that gag in C & H. Nobody knows what the “noodle incident” was, precisely so it COULD be left to the readers to imagine it for themselves.

Well Calvin did give a pumpkin a lobotomy when he carved a joack-o-lantern. And Hobbes almost fainted.
I suspect PBS is going to have an increased readership now. Good for SP. He has been complaining lately about the death of newspapers and hence his readers.
celeconecca almost 15 years ago
I wish PBS was on this site, along with several others I have to go off-site to see.
The Old Wolf almost 15 years ago
Nice of Bill to give Stephan a nod, both strips are superb. This one’s a groaner, though…

Good one Jason.

Just how long did Bill sit on this particular literary egg before he hatched it?

If you’re tired of the horrible slowness of Comics.com, try Yahoo comics instead:

Tskoge: while we’re on that subject… about eight years ago I was visiting Ireland and saw a bus-stop ad for microwave breakfast sausage. The ad showed a vaguely South-American-looking guy holding a sausage and singing, flanked by two busty women holding skillets. The slogan across the bottom of the sign read…
“Don’t Fry For Me, Marge and Tina”

Absolutely fantastic, it’s like three of my favorite comics in one, now if Bucky Katt were there

@Ushindi Re: comics.com slowness
Comics.com did a hardware upgrade or something about two-three weeks ago. It’s way better now.
I’m not saying comics.com is now as good as GoComics, but if you haven’t been there recently, give it another try.

From “Calvin and Hobbes,” it makes you wonder what WAS the so-called “noodle incident” from that story. Unbelieveable that Mr. Amend remembered that from Mr. Watterson.
bmonk almost 15 years ago
There’s always “Hamster Hewie and the Gooey Kablooey”…

The Pearls reference is nice. Makes me think of:
“Don’t cry for me Barbara Streisand! The truth is I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever liked you!”
Jason is good. But can he do Tarzan’s Tripes Forever?

I think that Jason has actually reproduced the noodle incident is a sort of riff off his whole ‘boy genius’ thing. We don’t know what it was… but he does.

“The Noodle Incident”! LOVE these Calvin and Hobbes refrences! Shame Mr. Watterson stopped drawing C&H, but he has his reasons.
