I wonder if Mr. Amend came up with that poem in college and wanted an excuse to use it (like Mr. Davis’ “My Buddy” a few “Garfield Classics” ago).
It sounds like something Stephan Pastis would come up with.

Roger could have made a poem with the lines ending in ‘-ger’. Then he could have included his own name in the poem
My daughters found out exactly how fast I could come up with a rhyme this weekend when I came up with a new verse for the “Schoolhouse Rock” song “Telegraph Line” fitting a situation one of them was in.
Due to the vagaries of English spelling, concerning vowels in particular, some of Peter’s word choices don’t actually rhyme.
I don’t get it
“I feel like a cog because of my missing tog, so I’m going to have a nog…”
And peter is a clod
