We once had a good working relationship with a vendor and they would provide us with a lot of free technical support. Their engineers and ours would work together on a project and they knew where we were going with their product and kept us informed of their developments that pertained to what we were doing.
Then I got a new boss who thought we were paying too much for the contract. So he renegotiated the deal and squeezed every last nickel out of the vendor as a concession. From that point on, support dried up and if we wanted it, we had to pay for it, and of course, the company would not do that.
Efficiency went up and production (and our customer satisfaction) went down. Sometimes it does not pay to let the bean counters run the organization.
I’ve worked at companies like that a few times. Usually I’d just say ‘No’ to any stupidity. Than they would have to decide whether to fire me or not. Usually, they’d find a work around..

My brother used to work for Bechtel. They had to requisition wastepaper basket liners, and explain why a new one was needed.

Is it just me, or does Ms Bigwig bear a strong resemblance to Jason’s iguana in a wig?

I actually save all my paper clips when I scan papers, since they’re stapled after, and take them back to my desk.
