Years ago, there was a gas leak in a house here. Something ignited it. The “explosion” lifted the house a short distance off of the foundation. It landed back on the foundation, but at a slight angle. The walls were bowed out. It had to be destroyed.
We had an old gas drier that I was always having to relight the pilot light on by holding down a button until my thumb almost dropped off. One evening I was doing that and reached up to turn on the ceiling fan, and discovered what can happen with an old non-grounded electrical system. My hand clamped down around the light chain, and I couldn’t let go until my knees buckled and I jerked the chain out of the switch. When the light went out, I thought I had died!
