Flies, cockroaches and rats all have their niche in the environment. They eat stuff otherwise destined to fester bacteria and other pathogens. I wonder what would happen if they suddenly disappeared. What would move in to take their place?
I think Gabby meant that the fly was now in “Francis” having flown in from some other strip.
I was rather hoping for Billy from “Family Circus” to come in looking for the fly leaving his dotted trail. Or perhaps Pig from “Pearls before Swine” coming in and bonding with Leo (they are very much alike).
Though there a few proposed etymologies and interpretations of that name, the most often cited is that it means “Lord of the Flies.”
Its actual meaning has also been fluid over time. It has variously been taken to refer to Satan himself, or to Satan’s chief demon, or even to a particular god of the Philistines.
The history and various understandingsxare fun to read… but I’ve always been taken by that Lord of the Flies title.

Maybe Gabby meant to say, “It’s still in the Vatican”? I don’t see any corruption in the strip.

Beelzebub translates to “lord of the flies”.
