Actually, the most moral society in the world, old Israel following God’s Law, taxed everyone for everything. Tithing. And provided for everyone who couldn’t provide for themselves. Gleaning, working for your welfare, among them. If God’s law provided for taxes. then it is most certainly moral. And yeah, we are a footnote in the final spiritual evolution of man.

@ freeholder1, You are so true. When I hear people rage against taxes but uphold tithing, I am reminded of this. At one time the church kept up the roads, provided local security, national security, welfare of the people, old age care and utilities. How? Through tithing. Today, most churches believe their tithing is only for them. There are some good programs for the youth, maybe a food pantry but mostly donations are used to increase the building fund, build a new parking lot or increase the minister’s salary. Tithing to a “Pat Robertson” is worse yet.

    Mxyzptlk, taxation is legal theft?

That’s only true if you do not participate in the civilization that is made possible through taxation. Do you use public roads? Do you expect some sort of care when you are sick and poor, or when you lose your job? Do you even have a job in the first place? (Who regulated the companies to make sure they have minimum standards of behavior?) Do you use the internet, and on what equipment? What are the standards for information transfer? All of that is possible only through taxes.

I would rather say that (reasonable) taxation is a participation in the social covenant by which human life and civilization is possible.
