Here I vent a pet peeve of mine. Why is it that AMPAS not only doesn’t gig an actor’s performance for being enhanced by makeup, costuming, dialog coaches, personal trainers, lighting, camera angles, etc. but even hands out separate awards for some of those categories, and yet they still fail to recognize the outstanding work of Andy Serkis — clearly the best supporting actor of the year in all 3 of his Lord of the Rings films, plus his star turns in the most recent Planet of the Apes origin stories, simply because he does it with motion capture?
