… then they’ll only be satisfied with some food.
or if the question is something like, “Do you need to go out?” (and they do)
… then you had better let them out – otherwise you will also not be “satisfied” with the “answer” (or gift) they provide.
Would it were so, but, like many generalizations, this one has its exceptions. Not all seemingly friendly dogs are safe to be near.
A pat answer is OK, but a good tummy rub really hits the spot!
