There’s a live action bald eagle cam on a nest near Big Bear Lake. Since the nest, and the eagle, are surrounded by snow, I didn’t think to try to pester them.
I visited Kensington Metro Park in Michigan to photograph birds. I was surprised to encounter several loud individuals on a “Nature Trail” walk. Thankfully, they were few in number, but it left me pondering how they could appreciate wildlife while inadvertently driving it away with their noise.
I am convinced that the greatest danger to wildlife and the natural word isn’t the environment but humans who haven’t a clue. But that’s a two-edged blade as humans also are the main cause of that environmental failure.
Gotta run the problem back to the ‘you only live once’ mentality that pervades the landscape.
Around here we’ve got flocks of wild turkeys that occasionally troop across the road, hang out in the parks, or stroll thru the ‘hood. And they’re pretty impressive birds. I was particularly impressed by the video one motorist took of the lead tom stepping out on the road in front of his car and fanning his tail in the direction of oncoming traffic to stop it while the rest of the flock walked across in single file, whereupon he unfanned and followed them. I like and admire the turkeys well enuf, and I can kinda see why Ben Franklin thot they deserved to be our national bird. But then last week someone posted this pic — tinyurl.Com/328k5xj9 — on NextDoor and removed all doubt as to why we ended up with the eagle instead.

Around here Eagles make their nests on top of power line towers or prebuilt platforms for them 20 to 40 feet in the air

It should be illegal to inveigle the regal eagle.

Given enough time, the eagle would take care of things.
