FRAZZ BY JEF MALLETT Mr. Burke: You know what I don't get? Fancy coffee shops. Frazz: Oh, we've heard THIS rant before. Sure, prices are on the high side. But you're paying for more than your coffee. You're paying for comfort, attention, atmosphere. For the music on the stereo, the art on the walls, the smiles on the baristas. You're paying for a nice place to do your homework, check your e-mail, or just linger. Mr. Burke: That's what I don't get. how do you make any money when people can monopolize a table all morning for three bucks? Frazz: Well, most people get their coffee to go.
In the home of the first Starbuck’s, home of coffee-flavored-liquid-candy-in-a-cup, I saw a t-shirt I really liked: it said, “Coffee. Black. Don’t put anything fancy in it.”
