Caulfield: Passenger pigeons may have been the most abundant bird ever. So abundant, people thought they would last forever. And so easy to hunt that they didn't. When I was a kid on an Arkansaw* farm, the lightning bugs were thick…and beautiful. And I haven’t seen one in…a very long time.
(and that’s how you spell the state’s name if you’re REAL)
