Caulfield: Whoo! There's enough summer behind me to feel exhausted, but not nearly enough left ahead of me to relax! Mr. Spaetzle: You're going to love middle age. Caulfield: I like how his own non sequiturs make him roll his eyes. Frazz: Is that what Mr. Spaetzle was doing?

“I wish I had the money and knowledge at 18 that I have now.”
Sigh. I DO have the money and knowledge now that I had when I was 18 . . .

I know this is pointless… but if I could just go back and start over, and anytime I even think about marriage, someone pops up with a “Train-Wreck” image to discourage frivolous ventures.

non sequiter essentially means ‘it dosent make sense’. I think he should have used irony to convey the thought.

Actually, non sequitur means “it does not follow”, in other words the thought does not logically proceed from what has just been said. In this case, Caulfield just doesn’t realize that it follows perfectly.
