Frazz by Jef Mallett for May 15, 2016
Transcript:
Frazz: It's actually named for Maia, the greek counter-part of the Roman goddess of fertility, Bona Dea. Though the poet ovid suggests it comes from "maiores", latin for "elders," paired with June, after the latin "luniores", ie,, juniors. So you can take your pick where May gets its name. Girl: I'm sticking with "May be nice, May be yucky." Frazz: That works, too.
It’s May, It’s May, that gorgeous holidayWhen every maiden prays that her lad will be a cadIt’s mad, it’s gay, alive, a lust displayThose dreary vows that everyone takes, everyone breaksEveryone makes divine mistakesThe Lusty Month of May
