After the last day of school, we always camped out in my best friend’s back yard. We’d play flashlight tag in the dark, and sneak off to the all night bakery after midnight. We would make hammocks out of old bed sheets. It always rained. The hammocks always ripped. We’d end up sleeping on her porch. And, we would do it all again, the next year.
The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. John Ruskin
The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. Dolly Parton
Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet. Roger Miller
The shortest period of time lies between the minute you put some money away for a rainy day and the unexpected arrival of rain. Jane Bryant Quinn
You pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too. That’s a part of it. Denzel Washington
Predicting rain doesn’t count. Building arks does. Warren Buffett
A crown is merely a hat that lets the rain in. Frederick the Great
When I was young, in the 1950’s, we did a lot of camping, because that way our large family could afford to see interesting places. We saw mountains, caverns, bears, and beaches- all the Great Lakes, Nova Scotia, Long Island, Nags Head, Myrtle Beach, and much more. Each of us had a book to read on the long drives. None of us, children (6) or adults (2-3) complained about the camping. We loved all of it, from the woods to the beaches—- except the time on the north shore of the St. Lawrence that the mosquitoes tried to carry us away. We were constantly entertained by the things we saw and did. None of us relied on someone else to amuse us, although we did sing and play games on the road.

The silhouette cell is pretty. And it introduces a pause in the dialogue. Let’s them and the reader mull things over. Well done.

to paraphrase: A child’s will is the wind’s will and the thoughts of youth are long, long thoughts. The more rain, the longer the thoughts.
