One more time: Olsen 1 – Caulfield 0 And, as I look at the kid in the back row by the bulletin board, I have a feeling of deja vu. A lotta years ago, that would have been me. As in H-m-m-m- there’s a bug on the light. Wonder what he’s doin’ up there?
In Caulfield’s case, he probably does know the answer—or would in about a nanosecond if he actually thought about IT. But he has too much fun running with the reasoning that’s usually thrown at him. The kid could make a terrifying lawyer, or a truly terrifying politician.
I just love Caulfield’s posture mocking Mrs. Olsen. It actually caused me to go back to the second frame to see if it matched Mrs. Olsen’s posture… It does!
Unlike religious people, so insecure that “Goddiddit” is their go-to answer for every puzzle they can’t figure out themselves, actual scientists are perfectly willing to accept “nobody yet knows” as an answer. The main difference thereafter is that the religiots are content with their soothing myth, whereas scientists keep looking for the REAL answer.

I do believe that Caulfield is bored and stirs things up for amusement, but don’t quote me on that.

I’d be very surprised if she didn’t already pick up on his pattern.

Mrs. O’s question: “Caulfield, can you tell me the answer to question #8?”
Caulfield’s answer: “Yes.”
That’s the real success.

I do believe that Caulfield and has been successful at teaching his teacher. Now she ups her game and it falls to him to do the same.
