I have noticed that it’s really REALLY unfair to expect people to function well enough to make coffee … until after they’ve already consumed coffee. It’s a puzzle.
PS: Don’t ask me to do it for you: I’ve never made a cup of coffee in my life. Want some tea?
Was a report where medics opined two cups a day were healthy, less was better, more was asking for trouble. Don’t remember how they gathered their stats or derived their conclusions, but it was interesting. Mr. Spaetzle is definitely pushing the stats.
I have been a 2 a day coffee drinker for over 70 years and look forward to each cup for no other reason than I like it. Like the scent of it when I open the can and while it is dripping into the pot. But then I also like the smell of peanut butter and dark chocolate and things baking.
T’is said the sense of smell is the first, most intense moment for a new born, and that it is the trigger in later years for memories that can be recalled in no other way.
And that’s a good thing. After all, life must include some things we like as we age or the days become very dull.
I think there is a good deal of difference between people and how they use their morning beverages. I sort of grew up in factories and machine shops early in my career. At “oh my god!” in the morning, it wasn’t the Folger’s commercial about the rich aroma or anything like that. It was just getting hot, strong, caffeine dumped into the system to make you aware enough not get get your hands caught in the stamping machine. It was about the 3rd or 4th cup and after the morning trip to the bathroom that a “good” cup of coffee was needed, at which point you went to the other pot in the breakroom which was more carefully brewed.
I never drank coffee until it was available free to me in the lab I worked in during graduate school. I began to especially appreciate the beauty of its deep, dark bitter flavors in contrast with the sweetness of the donuts my major professor would bring in for us in the lab to share during lab meetings.
From that point on, I have been a big fan of coffee… always black, no anything added… except maybe ice… because I dislike hot beverages.

Somehow, those of us who don’t drink coffee manage to start their day without it. Of course, I have cats that wake me at the crack of dawn.

Reminds me of one of my favourite Frasier quotes, “Yes, Niles, but if less is more just imagine how much more more would be.”

For me, two is necessary. Three is superfluous.

I used to work with another truck driver who literally could not function until his 3rd. cup of coffee. He had a SERIOUS caffeine addiction.
Myself, I haven’t had a cup of Coffee in over 50 years. I can’t STAND the taste of that nasty bitter burnt bean juice!!

My second cup is the best. That’s when I have a Pepperidge Farm cookie with it.

I had the same problem with Dr Pepper, but by the time I had had my third one, I was too jittery to hold the can.
