Cornish pasties, or pasties, are a meat hand pie. It was brought from Cornwall by the miners who immigrated to work in the copper mines in the U.P.

How many names are there for a baked pastry with a meat filling? Empanadas.. Samosa.. Calzone.. Pasty, etc..

We have a friend who invites a group over to eat pasties. Which are single-serving meat pies. She says she’s ALWAYS having to explain the difference…

Oddly enough, when I read the word, “Pasty”, food isn’t what came to my mind.

Take it from Mr Mallett himself: he means pasties, and they’re from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

It’s pronounced with a short a, like past tee. Not like paste.

Now let’s talk about ketchup or gravy or none on your pasty.

It’s October. Maybe the Church wants to keep Christmas at Christmas.

Thank you Jef, for the Yooper call out and making me dream of Pasties. Even though I lived in BR – I was born in the UP.

In my small hometown 8 decades back, there were 3 churches within a block of each other so they combined their annual bake sales. Talk about a sweet tooth festival. Brought people from miles around and lined them up a block long. For hours all one heard were the sounds of oo’s and aah’s, and the slurping of coffee. And over on the side, former competitors were trading recipes and talking of the times when their moms ruled the kitchen. We kids had a ball that day, stuffing, and maybe messing around, but suffered for it with tummy pains later. A great memory very rarely repeated since.

Don’t confuse past-ee with paste-ee. Two entirely different things.

“Best not to question” really is kinda the basic operating principle of churches, isn’t it?

It depends on what you like about Christmas. If it’s “excitement”, then yes, a church that celebrates Christmas the right way will not rank very high on the scale.

If you find pasties more exciting than Christmas, the fault does not lie with the church.

I guess when you think about it, churches selling pasties makes sense, as long as they’re not the tasseled kind of pasties…..
