We HAVE done a “standard vacation” perhaps thrice in our lives. They were fun, of a sort, but too busy. And the Dismayland one was also too crowded and too expensive. Lately, we mostly rent a motel somewhere “interesting” and then go tour around. Usually tasting the local wines, eating at the local “top tier” restaurants … and yeah, taking in the local points of interest. It’s reasonably expensive (not “too” and not “inexpensive” either) but we end up drinking good wine for months after we get back. And the pictures are usually both pretty and interesting: Waterfalls, strange sheep near the winery, a nice bend in a river…
